Toucan Sunset 36x48
Rainbow toucan floats on a midnight river of hair.
She. Dressed in pearls and emerald silk,
Adorned with fragrant orchids, exotic and rare.
Mysteries hidden behind black whirlpool eyes.
Volcanic fingers appear through jungle leaves,
Plunge into orange sherbet skies,
thick with smoky clouds
and patches of blue.
Tropical trees bend and sway like lime-green butterflies
dancing on warm Ocean breezes.
Red-wing blossom cascades and dangles,
An earring fit for a goddess.
Exploring the Amazon Rainforest
While vacationing with girlfriends, I am most impressed by the giant banyan trees and exotic plants growing everywhere.
We are thrilled to spot a tree-hugging sloth, red parrots flying across the river and odd-looking pink dolphins our guide shares stories about. Iridescent blue butterflies flit along the trail we are walking on and stop to sip water from the sandy bottom.
We eat fresh Brazil nuts and other interesting fruits.
Our small boat skims along the treetops as the river has flooded unbelievably. Later, our guide takes us fishing and I catch a piranha he takes it off the hook for supper.
I never heard so many frogs singing in the night as we rested on board our houseboat, “Delphina”. The guide takes us for a ride in a small motorboat to hear howler monkeys and vampire bats calling in the night.
Paddling with Laura on one of the tributaries, a toucan flies across the river ahead and takes my breath away.
This rainforest is where I find Paradise.
